For the last 12 years Tyler has drifted and steadily built his AE86 into being the competitive car it is today. In his opinion, the best part of drifting a car that he initially learned to drive on is that he is intimately familiar with all aspects of the chassis. Nearly every fabricated component on the vehicle has been constructed by him in his garage. He says he has drifted the car since the first day he got it!
The car has had 6 motors, 4 rear ends, and 6 transmissions over the years. While this might seem like a lot, Tyler says that it just means they have had a wonderful relationship.
Drifting and building this car has taught him more than he can explain and is very much a part of him. Having fabricated the cage, front and rear tube bumpers, the big angle LCA’s, the relocated rack, motor mounts, transmission mounts, and stitch welding the chassis – if it was done with a welder he was probably the one who did it.
Tyler’s plans for 2016 are to compete in both DriftCon events as well as some other ProAm rounds. He would also like to reclaim his 2014 DriftCon team tandem title with his fellow Backyard Built teammates.
