DriftCon Afterdark will be held on September 28, 2019 from 3pm to 10pm at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. This event is combined with round 5 of the Evergreen Drift ProAm series.

Drift Games and Team Tandem Showoff at DriftCon Afterdark will run throughout the day and night of the event. This part of the event is designed to be our fun end of the season sendoff. We want drivers to experience styles of drifting that they are not able to do in standard competition. Since it will be held AFTER the ProAm competition, in theory drivers should have nothing to lose. Drivers are encouraged to give ride-alongs (only passengers who have signed the waiver) and have a great time at the last large drifting event of the year!

TIMED “JIGEN” DRIFT – MIRRORED GYMKHANA DRIFT

DriftCon is excited to introduce:  JIGEN DRIFT (pronounced Jee-gan Drift)! Influenced by the popularity of the show Hyperdrive and gymkhana videos, we’ve designed a new head-to-head competition that is time based but also features technical obstacles and required drifting elements to successfully complete the run.

This is an experimental competition that if well-received by fans and drivers could potentially expand and evolve into something bigger next year.

Drivers will randomly pair up in staging before getting the signal to proceed to the starting point.

Stage 1: Drivers will begin placing their cars nose to nose on the main straight. At the drop of a FLAG the lap timer starts, and drivers will shoot off in reverse to the first obstacle. With good speed and technique driving in reverse; drivers must complete a 180° turn before proceeding toward the first of two large rotation barrels.

Stage 2: A full lap around the barrel (note which side to enter on) will setup the driver for the next section.

Stage 3: Pool Noodles are to be hit with the rear 1/3rd of the vehicle while in drift. Coming out of the first barrel drivers on a proper line can begin their drift and hit the first noodle – then after being “loaded up” on that side; transition into the next series of noodles which create a radius wall leading to the final barrel.

Stage 4: One full rotation around the final barrel followed by a mad-dash sprint to the finishing box.

Stage 5: A marked off box area indicates the target zone for drivers to drift park and slide into. Lap timer stops once the car settles to a stop.

Exit the track when signaled and stage up again with a different driver.

*Penalties given are 1sec added to total time for:

  • Hitting a rotation barrel
  • NOT hitting a pool noodle while in-drift or completely wiping out the pool noodle barrel
  • For not finishing inside the final parking box
  • Any other out of the ordinary actions that the judges / track officials decide

Fastest overall driver wins the first ever Jigen Drift trophy!

BIG ENTRY / WALL RIDE CONTEST

A popular and familiar competition returns with a couple of changes. Not only will drivers have to exhibit skill, style, and technique with a massive entry into a tighter radius turn – but they’ll have to maintain their composure and transition into an arcing wall of noodles to successfully finish the run.

This will run just like previous years with staging on turns three and four of the 3/8ths bank. For as long as time permits we’ll send cars one at a time down the course. Judges will factor in both initiation style and overall cleanliness through the noodle barrel wall.

*The idea is to TAG the noodles – not destroy the barrels holding them.
*Zach Farrar 360° is technically a 0 for spinning out… 😊

  • Once cleared and sent, a driver will make his approach down the main straight – speed is up to the driver.
  • Driver has open choice of how they wish to initiate, the faster and more aggressive the better.
  • After completing the entry, driver should transition into the noodle barrel “wall” and attempt to hit as many noodles as possible without hitting barrels.
  • Drivers will get as many runs as we can fit in the allotted time – the driver with the best entry and most number of noodles hit wins the contest.
  • Must hold and maintain the drift and finish through the infield.
  • Exit on access road and get back in line.

TEAM TANDEM SHOWOFF – SOLD OUT

We’ve heard your requests, and we’ve added a short Team Tandem challenge; a little over an hour long (8:30 to 9:45) judged run group on a cageless layout. Teams of 3 -5 will take turns making as many runs as possible. This is a non-bracket challenge and all runs will be taken into consideration during the initial TOP 5 selection process.

Teams will stage up for a cageless layout and will proceed to run AS TEAMS ONLY (no solo driving) in an open drift fashion. Think of it as a team only run group.

After approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour of driving, the judges will determine the top 5 teams from the day. The rest of the teams will be moved off the track and the top 5 teams will continue making runs. In the case of it being too close to call, there will be a sudden death between the two top teams where they will each get 2 final runs for the judges to determine the best team overall.

  • Timely stage up on turn 4 of the 3/8ths for the cageless layout.
  • A specific amount of time will be allotted for TEAMS ONLY.
  • Understand that ALL runs during this session will be judged, and only a single team will be crowned the winner based on overall impression.
  • Passing is discouraged. Teams should stay in order from start to finish.
  • Drivers should not straighten up or make severe corrections.
  • There will be no “restarts” or “do-overs” for teams.
  • A single backup / reserve driver may be selected from the pre-paid open drivers.
  • Proximity is EVERYTHING.

Note: No cash prize will be awarded in this competition.
